MSAW will not kill stray dogs any more!
Translation of the article on lexpress.mu today:
The operation of the Mauritius Society for Animal Welfare (MSAW) will be reviewed. The latter will no longer be authorized to euthanize the dogs. In any case, it was announced by the Minister of Agro-industry, Mahen Seeruttun, while he was commenting on the Budget, in Parliament yesterday, Tuesday 13 June.
What motivated this? NGOs that have shown the clause against the way the company is supposed to protect animals and international pressure. "The activities of the MSAW do not fit in with its name. The body captures and euthanizes the dogs and this is their only method of control. We're going to review it. "
Thus, dogs caught in the MSAW nets will be sterilized and placed in shelters. The ministry also plans to work with NGOs to help our four-legged friends find a foster family.
